Steven was a wonderful man who loved to dance. He loved to teach dance. But mostly, Steven loved the children whom he taught to dance. Steven's cheers for the dancers on stage were easily recognizable even in a packed auditorium. On several occasions we witnessed Steven backstage at a competition giving a hug or words of support to dancers that he had never even met. He had a smile for everyone. Mr. Steven, you are truly missed.

I would like to start by saying how truly saddened I am to hear the terrible news of the passing of Mr. Steven Boyd. He was such an amazing man, as everyone knows, and I never would have imagined having to write something like this. I can not help but feel truly sorry for future dancers who will not get the chance to be influenced by such an incredible person, because he truly made a huge impact on my life both as a person and as a dancer. Mr. Steven has played a tremendous role in the dance community, and I feel it is our duty as dancers to pass on the amazing lessons he has so kindly shared with us. As for all the dancers who were lucky enough to take class from him, I want you guys to take all the helpful lessons he taught you and apply it to everything you do in your life. I will never forget seeing him at our Houston Regionals. He made my day seeing him in his purple and gold suits. He was always so festive which we love at Masquerade! He was also so thoughtful at Nationals to make sure he screamed as loud as he could for his students to make sure no one was sleeping or not paying attention. The whole staff could not help but laugh to each other on our headsets and say "Listen to Steven screaming at the top of his lungs!!!!" He was also the lucky recipient of our "Fastest Runner" Judges Award, after saving a dancer as she fell off the stage. That was the kind of man he was, and I feel truly privileged to have been able to know him. I would like to send my deepest condolences to the his family and the students, teachers, and parents of Becky's Academy of Dance in Houston, TX. You guys will be in my prayers always. Hold your heads high. You all have so much to be proud of, he helped mold you into the young women and men you are today and that is something to be extremely proud of and cherish forever. I will not be able to attend the services because I will be at a convention in New York City, but on behalf of the entire Masquerade Staff and Helena Hosch School of Dance in Metairie, Louisiana, we are always here if you need anything. Know that he is in a much better place and will always be looking down on all of us! Mr. Steven, until we meet again, I Love You and you will be missed unconditionally!
